Follow Up Seminar in Serbia
“Education and Museums”

After organizing the regional conference under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Canton Sarajevo within the History Project: “Remember for the Future” from 2-5 July 2009 dvv international supported an organization of the Follow-Up-Seminar in Bosnia & Herzegovina. During the Sarajevo Conference the participants, Museum Specialists, were asked to link with a previous target group of the History Project – history teachers and to establish networks of museum workers and history teachers on a national level.

In November 2009 the Regional Office of dvv-international received one project proposal from Serbia and decided to give a financial support (2.000,00 EUR) for organization of one Follow-Up-Seminar.

The seminar was organized on 27th of December 2009 in Belgrade at the Primary School „Vladislav Ribnikar“.The main aim was to gather experts who work in museums and history teachers, researchers to meet, exchange experiences and discuss the ideas for better cooperation between the schools and the museums regarding education in the museums, and for fostering the pedagogical and andragogical work of the museums. The focus of the first part of the day was on the exchange of experiences of participants in this area and sharing best practices. At the first session the participant - expert from Croatia, Branko Dijanosic represented some projects from Croatia related to the pedagogical activities of the local museums. The second session of the seminar was led by museum experts: Maja Nikolova, Ana Panic and Ivan Manojlovic who presented their experiences. Miss Nikolova described workshops for pupils which were held at the Pedagogical Museum in the reconstructed classroom from the end of 19th century.

The participants also implemented all previous discussed ideas in practical frame. The first workshop „Schools and the Museums - cooperation in the future“ were conducted by Bojana Loncar. The last session was the workshop „One Class in the Museum“ which was conducted by Jelena Zivkovic.

Follow Up Seminar in Macedonia:
“History and Archeology – one unbreakable bond”

During the Sarajevo Conference the participants, Museum Specialists, were asked to link with a previous target group of the History Project – history teachers and to establish networks of museum workers and history teachers on a national level.

In October 2009 the Regional Office of dvv-international received one project proposal from Museum of Macedonia from Skopje and decided to give a financial support (2.000,00 EUR) for organization of one Follow-Up-Seminar.

The seminar was organized on 21st of December 2009 in the Museum of Macedonia. The participants were teachers from primary and secondary schools, museum workers, researchers, archeologists, representatives from the Ministry of Education and representatives of the National Office of dvv-international in Macedonia. During the seminar the participants were sharing ideas about history itself, methods of different pedagogical activities in museums and multi-perspective view on history. Following topics were discussed:

• Unbreakable bond between history and archeology and
• Multidisciplinary approach to history research

Besides that the participants also show big interest for a potential of history to contribute the reconciliation in the West Balkan countries.

Follow Up Seminar in Bosnia and Herzegovina:
“Museums – History – Literature”

During the Sarajevo Conference the participants, Museum Specialists, were asked to link with a previous target group of the History Project – history teachers and to establish networks of museum workers and history teachers on a national level.

In October 2009 the Regional Office of dvv-international received one project proposal from Museum “Ivo Andric ” from Travnik in B&H and decided to give a financial support (2.000,00 EUR) for organization of one Follow-Up-Seminar.

The seminar was organized on 29th of December 2009 in the house of Ivo Andric´s birth. The participants were teachers from primary and secondary schools, museum workers, researchers, journalists and representatives from the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Canton Srednja Bosna. During the seminar the participants were sharing ideas about history itself, methods of different pedagogical activities in museums and multi-perspective view on history. At the end they made following suggestions:

• The Ministry of Education and Culture of Canton Srednja Bosna should make changes in Curricula of primary and secondary schools and each Curriculum should include at least one visit to the Museum during one school year.
• Museum specialists should visit primary and secondary schools in Travnik and promote activities and program of the Museum
• History classes and classes of the literature about Ivo Andric should be organized in the Museum
• The Ministry of Education and Culture of Canton Srednja Bosna should make changes in Curricula of secondary schools and Curricula should provide a possibility to organize scenic perusal of Ivo Andric´s written works in the Museum.

In the second part of the Seminar actors of two theaters from Travnik organized short scenic perusal of one of Ivo Andric´s stories and made clear to all participants of the seminar how one of the multi-perspective views on history could look like.

During the Seminar the Museum also promoted a booklet “Do you know?”, which is a small collection of very interesting facts about Travnik. The booklet was prepared by museum specialists and printed with the financial support of dvv-international and will be distributed free of charge to all primary and secondary schools in Travnik.

History Project Starts into a New Circle with Museum Specialists

From 2-5 July 2009 dvv international organized a regional conference under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Canton Sarajevo within the History Project: “Remember for the Future”.

The workshops were held in 3 different locations related to the issue of history and culture such as the National Museum, Svrzina Kuca and the Orient meets Occident Pavillon which stand for different locations such as an ordinary museum, a museum in a historical location (Bosnian House) and surrounding of museum. Dr. Beate Schmidt-Behlau coordinator of the region in the Bonn office of dvv international and Ms Dženana Ibišević on behalf of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Canton Sarajevo opened the conference, Burkad Grahn from IBB Dortmund, Marc Olejniczak and Christian Geiselmann moderated the workshops.

The participants also had the opportunity to visit the Tunnel museum as an outstanding example of a Remembrance Memorial. The History Project was launched in 2004 with a general aim to contribute to a better understanding of the recent past in the region and conflict resolution. In the first phase the focus was on training teachers in the “Oral History” method. It receives financial support from the German Ministries for economic cooperation and development and for Foreign Affairs.

Modern Approaches and Good Practices of History Teaching

More than 30 teachers and experts from various places in Bulgaria gathered in Veliko Tarnovo to share and discuss various history teaching approaches and practices. Topics that raised much interest were: how to use the biography method in the everyday practice, what are the advantages of the multicultural approach, how to build a positive image of the neighbor, how to use movies and new technologies to make the lessons much more enjoyable and interesting of everybody involved.
